Until it affects you, you have no idea of how Alzheimer can change the life of the sufferer, the spouse, partner and other family member. You start to recognize that the person you love is slowly changing; you may think that it is part of the ageing process, but these may be the first signs that all is not well. In the last five years I have had firsthand experience of this with my mother and, since she was first diagnosed, I have spoken to many people who find themselves in similar situations. They have all expressed the wish that they would like to go on holiday with their spouse/ partner, to enjoy their time away together before the illness takes a proper hold and going on holiday becomes more difficult.
Since 1979 I have been running a successful holiday company, which specialises in holidays for the slow walker or wheelchair user, and those people who know me personally or professionally have often asked for my advice.
They all have said how hard it is not only to try to organize a holiday, but also to find one which is suitable, this means organizing the right level of support and help at airports, find appropriate excursions, arranging all the transfers etc. This has made me realize that no provisions exist for the early stages of Alzheimer’s sufferers and their loved ones when they want to go on holiday, and this is why we have decided to offer a selected programme of escorted cruises using our experience and knowledge of the travel market only to couples where one of the travellers is in the first stages of the condition.
We have set up this site to give you all the information on the holidays we provide how they are operated and what is included. By joining our escorted holidays you will find that you receive the support needed to ensure that you enjoy your holiday together, as you once did.
Using my lengthy experience in running specialist holidays I have organised these escorted holidays solely for Alzheimer’s sufferers and for every booking we will make a donation to the Alzheimer Society in support of their cause. |
